The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Taraba State on Thursday night suspended its industrial action and asked its members to resume work.

Naija News reports that the Chairman of the Taraba State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, Musa Buhari, announced the suspension of the strike at a press conference Thursday night in Jalingo.

According to Buhari, the strike was suspended following an agreement with the state government to work out modalities for the implementation of the new minimum wage within three months from April to June.

He called on civil servants in the state to resume work immediately, but report any attempt of victimisation on account of compliance with the industrial action.

However, primary school teachers and local government workers, who were owed six months salaries by the state government, have questioned the decision of the labour leaders.

Some of them, who spoke with Daily Trust but would not like their names mentioned, said they were surprised that their plight is still hanging as there was no mention of when they would be paid their outstanding salaries.

Recall that members of the organised labour in Taraba, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), began the strike on March 22 over the failure of the government to implement the new national minimum wage.

  1. Nobody works on an empty stomach, you can’t expect those workers to give you their best shot when they are being owned for months.seriously this leadership is terrible and should not be ignored come 2023.

  2. You can imagine people working without pay. Every labourer has wages. You can’t be owning people that have worked with their sweat and expected them to comply with whatever decision to pay within three months. NASA oo a lot of money in this nation but people go to work in an empty stomach. Abeg all of you should start up a business for the sake of your families.
